The Type BER-1 Bit Error Ratio (BER) measurement system is designed to count and display the Bit Error Ratio between the demodulated, recovered RX Data and the originating TX Data from any of the Types BEG-1 Bit Error Generator, the NCD-1 Non-coherent demodulator, the CD-1 Integrate & Dump Coherent demodulator or the COS-1 Costas/squaring loop demodulator. The BER is brightly displayed on 7-segment LED displays and the display resolution is selectable from BER 10E-1 to 10E-6.
The Type BER-1 Measurement system connects between the Types BEG-1, NCD-1, CD-1 and COS-1 systems via a supplied CAT-6 cable. This connection routes all the necessary RX and TX Data, Data Clock and Reset signals. In addition, the Type BER-1 gives a relative BER indication via a bright LED and a DC voltage that can be measured and used while adjusting data demodulation sampling thresholds (on Types NCD-1, CD-1 and COS-1 demodulators) and I/Q-Arm bandwidths (Type COS-1 demodulator) to minimize and locate the optimum detector thresholds and bandwidths as a function of the noise power (SNR).
A Pause switch is provided to hold the display while copying measurements and the power input is polarity protected. Power requirements are +5VDC @ 250mA, maximum.
The Type BER-1 Bit Error Ratio (BER) Measurement board comes with:
- Technical Manual that covers Configuration, Operation, General Theory, Block Diagrams and Schematic Diagrams along with the design philosophy. 40 pages, 26 Figures and Parts Lists.
- One, +5VDC @ 1A wall-mount power supply.
- One, 3-foot CAT-6 (or CAT-5e) network cable.
- Four, 2-pin configuration jumpers.
- Type BER-1 board outline is (width x depth) 10" x 7" (254.0 x 177.8mm)
